"The time has come," the Walrus said, "to talk of many things. Of shoes, and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings, and why the sea is boiling hot and whether pigs have wings."

Two days ago, my husband and I were watching TV, just flipping channels and we came across the Bill O'Reilly segment on Fox News. The show had just started and they were discussing an illegal immigrant in Virginia Beach who drove drunk, crashed into another car (rear ended) and killed two teenage best friends. Geraldo Rivera was the guest pundit speaker.. and in cased you missed it, here it is in all it's glory on You Tube . The argument became quite heated with lots of table poundin...

Before I say anything else, this is NOT a historic account of the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. You want to see history? Go get The Civil War by Ken Burns. That's an accurate historical documentary. This isn't even BASED off the historic Battle of Thermopylae. This is based on a graphic novel based off an old movie based off someone else's loose retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae. Add in the fact that it's Frank Miller's graphic novel, and well.. it's not for everyone. That s...

Here is a follow up to my listing on online comics (i.e. free comics). I read all of these on a weekly basis. Some of these are not as main stream as the first listing I posted, but their quirkiness is their strength. Also, I’m going to plug my very own comic, “May I Help You.” Shameless, I know. • Killroy & Tina by Justin Pierce - Evil overlord alien gets bound to an ordinary earthgirl as punishment for taking over the universe. I really liked this comic because of the sense of...

Just an addendum to my earlier article, My Own Precious , here is a list of online comics that one can peruse freely. Some are already published, but have kept their archives free online.. Most, however, are a labour of love on the behalf of the author/artist. These comics are what have appealed to me specifically, and what I consider to be the best of the best. Not everyone would agree with me. * Megatokyo by Fred Gallagher - Story of two Americans "trapped" in Japan. Complete...

Twenty four years ago, I stood in front of a comic book stand inside a flower shop in Loudon, Tennessee while my mother ordered flowers for Memorial day. The flowers were to commemorate my grandparents’ graves in a small graveyard. I, however, was much more focused on the “Tales from the Crypt” and whether or not the Red Skeleton guy would actually defeat Spiderman in this particular issue. These comics were packed three in a loose bag, perfect for the disdaining parent to placate their re...

I work in a medical clinic under the umbrella of a state University. In the clerical/insurance/appointments side of a medical clinic, so in other words.. I'm the lady you see when you walk in and tell her you have an appointment. My particular clinic is very small, so I do it all with my counterpart who sits three feet away from me. We ARE the phone triage, the appointments desk, the database reports people, the medical records, the chart prepper, and the insurance information taker. I ...

If you've ever seen a Kung Fu movie, ever looked back on those movies that came on the Fox Network in the 80's on Saturday afternoons or after midnight with nostalgia (shame they don't do that anymore.. too high-falutin, I suppose).. then this is the movie for you. Stephen Chow (director/actor) does a fantastic job with "Kung Fu Hustle" (also known as "Gong Fu"), a comedy/drama complimented by fantastic martial art choreography. A slight morality tale of being true to oneself, and good...

My husband and I are avid movie-watchers. I mean, AVID. We watch a movie, analyze it, watch it again.. Now granted, there are movies that you really don't need to put a lot of thought into. But those really flashy special effects movies, the ones you wait with baited breath for.. that's what this is about and how movies are going to fare in the post-"Lord of the Rings" movie era. This past week, we bought "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" and got a copy of "I, Robot". Two very dif...
